HurricaneHousing.org Closed
But Shelter Still Available to Evacuees
On October 14, more than six weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit, we are closing down HurricaneHousing.org.
Thanks to the tens of thousands of generous individuals that offered housing, we helped nearly 30,000 hurricane victims start over. We have made arrangements with KatrinaHousing.org, a web site started by an amazing group of volunteers in Utah, to ensure that the housing needs of hurricane evacuees are still being met.
Do You Need Housing?
Hurricane evacuees can search hundreds of thousands of offers at KatrinaHousing.org, including many of those previously posted here. You may also call their Survivor Hotline
at 1-866-861-8890.
A Word From Our Hosts...
From Tony in Chicago, Illinois: "We were feeling pretty sad and down…but when we got off the plane in Chicago, the first person we met said "Welcome to your new home!"...and now our faith in human nature has been restored."
Joy from Lafayette, Colorado: "My oldest son refers to them as the family we didn't know we had."
